We are looking to add a Bid Writer to support our existing Bids and Tenders Team here at our Support Centre in Macclesfield.  

Metro Rod work with the likes of Equans, Amey, Aldi, Mitie, Greggs, McDonalds, Wetherspoons and many more in the FM, Social Housing, Property Management, Retail, Industrial and Leisure sectors. Founded in 1983, Metro Rod and its sister company Metro Plumb are leading providers of drain clearance and maintenance services delivered on a largely reactive basis. The services are provided by over 60 franchisees with geographical coverage across the UK. Within the Waste & Water Services Division of Franchise Brands, is also Willow Pumps and Filta. Two expanding businesses that focus on sewage pumps and commercial kitchen solutions. Together, the brands provide a complete one-stop shop for keeping water and waste flowing.

What does the Job entail?

We are seeking a Bid Writer to support the coordination and delivery of high-quality bids for new business opportunities, contract renewals, and strategic framework agreements. Working closely with the Head of Sales and commercial teams, you will help manage the end-to-end bid process, ensuring submissions are delivered on time, within scope, and to a high standard.

In this role, you will produce compelling, compliant written responses aligned with client requirements, contribute to bid strategy development, and help position the business as a preferred provider. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather accurate information and ensure clarity and transparency throughout the bid process, while working alongside the Bid Coordinator and wider team to manage the bid pipeline effectively.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven experience as a Bid Writer or within a bid support function, ideally within the Drainage, Plumbing, Pumps, Construction, or Facilities Services sectors.
  • Strong writing and editing capabilities with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and compliant bid responses aligned to client requirements and evaluation criteria.
  • Experience supporting the full bid lifecycle, including reviewing ITT/specification documents, contributing to bid strategies, and developing structured responses.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with operational, commercial, and franchise teams to gather information and shape compelling submissions.
  • High attention to detail with strong proofreading and document management skills to ensure all submissions are accurate, consistent, and professionally presented.
  • Experience working with commercial and operational teams to incorporate service delivery approaches and value propositions into written submissions.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced bid environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro; experience with AI writing tools or bid management software is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience maintaining bid records and documenting opportunities within a CRM system, ensuring opportunities are tracked and managed through the appropriate stages.
